Stewart McKie of Bridlington Lifeboat receives a cheque for £1,000 (25th September 2007)

Last year, Donald’s chosen charity was the RNLI and on the 25th September we had an excellent talk by the cox of Bridlington Lifeboat, Stewart McKie.

Fortunately it was a calm night so Stewart’s pager did not go off, otherwise our talk could have been severly truncated. It was very interesting to hear about the lifeboats service and the work Stewart is doing in helping to design and test the next generation of Lifeboats.

One has to marvel at a person who is actively waiting for bad weather so he can go out and test this unproven vessel, so when it finally comes into service it will perform to the RNLI high standards. Stewart has also invited club members to hold one of our meetings at the Lifeboat station in Bridlington where we can have a conducted tour of the Bridlington lifeboat.

The culmination of the evening was Donald presenting a cheque for £1,000 to Stewart, which we all know will be put to good use in ensuring the safety of Mariners around the local coast.
