Introducing Steve Gilks MBE - Inducted as a member on 1st August 2006
I became a Rotarian in July 1992 after being an Honorary Member of the Normanton Club in 1991/1992.
I was presented with a RIBI Community Service award by PDC John Neasham during the July 1992 Handover and President of the Normanton Club in 1997/98.
At the 1993 Scarborough Conference I met Rtn John Seaton (pictured left congratulating Steve on his induction) who was kind enough to get me a coffee and over the years John and I have become firm friends. Ruth and I have made regular visits to Driffield since 1993, along with my “Tuesday Girlfriend”.
With a great deal of help from fellow Rotarians in Driffield I started “ALUCAN Recycling” and this scheme has raised hundreds of pounds for medical equipment for Alfred bean Hospital and local GPs.
I was awarded an MBE in the January 1994 New Years Honours List and received my “gong” on the 8th march 1994. My visits to Driffield became more frequent and I was pleased to receive Honorary Membership of the Driffield Club for the years 2004/05 and 2005/06 and be inducted into the club as a full member on the 1st August.
Ruth and I always enjoy our visits to Ladies’ Nights, we strongly believe in “Service before Self” and the principles of fellowship and Friendship.
Rtn Steve Gilks
